Kio Estas la Diferenco Inter Biodiserigeblaj kaj Komposteblaj Produktoj?
The terms biodegradable and compostable are used in a very different way than most people realize. Did you know that biodegradable and compostable items aren’t the same?
Biodegradable and compostable items are fantastic eco-conscious alternatives, but there are substantial distinctions between the two. If you want to get the most eco-conscious alternative for traditional disposable items, you must understand what each means.
What does biodegradable mean?
When something is considered to be biodegradable, it naturally breaks down into simpler elements, such as biomass, water, and carbon dioxide, and passes away without requiring oxygen. In simple terms, biodegradables naturally disintegrate and disappear into the environment with the help of microorganisms.
Biodegradable items vary in how quickly they decompose based on the chemical composition of the item. For example, vegetables can take anywhere from 5 days to a month to disintegrate, while tree leaves can take up to a year.
What Makes Compostable Material?
Composting requires the right conditions and human intervention in order to occur. Because it requires high temperatures, high microbial levels, and diverse environments for aerobic respiration, human intervention is usually necessary. Water, carbon dioxide, biomass, and other inorganic materials are produced as a result of heat, humidity, and microorganisms. Nutrient-dense organic waste is produced as a result of this process.
Composting exists in large-scale commercial facilities, compost bins, and piles. We can point you to a composting facility in your area if you are interested in it.
Biodegradable and compostable products differ in that only those that are biodegradable are also compostable. Biodegradable products, such as compostable ones, break down naturally when sufficient material is present. The decomposition of compostable products, on the other hand, requires more specific conditions and usually has a set time period to fully assimilate into the environment. If a product is BPI® Certified, it will only degrade under certain environmental conditions.
Biodegradable Materials
Biodegradable materials can be produced from eco-conscious materials like PLA. The material known as PLA, which is made from corn-based starches, is commonly used in PLA bioresins. It uses 65% less energy to produce than conventional oil-based plastics while generating 68% fewer greenhouse gasses and containing no toxins.
Succeeding traditional petroleum-based plastics with bagasse is another option. It’s created during the sugarcane juice extraction process and contains biodegradable material. Bagasse is produced and this takes around 30-60 days to decompose.
